New technologies and greater awareness of safety issues and public expectations continually drive the state of the art for safety. SDV Escalators are pleased to offer the following safety devices for your escalator.
Legislation such as the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) may also require you to make changes to your escalator. For example, under the provisions of the DDA, service providers and building owners are required to make reasonable adjustments to their premises to make them accessible for people with disabilities.
Central Infill Deflector: A panel designed to prevent access to the central gap (known as the “running clearance”) between two escalators.
Child Deflector: A panel on the outside of the balustrade designed to prevent children holding on to the handrail and then pulled up the side of the escalator.
Handrail Motion Indicators: The handrail is marked with large contrasting dots (usually yellow or white) to assist visually impaired people to detect the continuous motion of the handrail, and the direction of travel.
Head guard: A panel designed to reduce the risk of trapping or impact where escalators run close to the fabric of the building or where escalators are in a “scissor” arrangement.
Non-Slip Steps: Steps can be refurbished using a non-slip paint product to reduce the chances of trips and slips and enhance passenger safety.
Pedestal Stop Buttons: Additional stop buttons which are raised on a pedestal for increased visibility and accessibility at the approach to and exit from the escalator.
Safety Brushes: These brushes are designed to reduce the risk of trapping and provide users with a tactile reminder to keep their feet a safe distance from the edges of the step where it meets the skirting panels.
Step Demarcation: These are yellow lines most often painted on the sides and rear edge of the steps, but may also be on the leading edge of the step and the risers. Demarcation lines indicate to passengers where to stand, away from trapping hazards. They can also assist visually impaired people to detect the continuous movement of the step band, and the direction of travel.
Traffic Lights: A system of coloured lights indicating the availability of the escalator and the direction of travel.
